Pilotless Planes Are Near Reality

While the current generation has developed the technology to fly planes without a human pilot, their grandchildren will likely be the first to use it according to aviation experts.

The reason?  Because a human being is still critical in the safety trust equation.

Even though some unmanned flights are foreseeable, most passengers depend intellectually and emotionally on having a real person in the cockpit to interact with the plane’s internal machine. Experts argue that human intuition coupled with human connection is necessary now and into the future.

Proponents of delaying unmanned piloting cite examples of near-fatal situations turned around by a human being at the helm. These critics argue that when technology to mimic those instincts exists, we might consider putting an aircraft that can fly itself into the clouds.

Of course, there will always be men and women who are passionate about flying planes, and those pilots aren’t going to go down without a fight.
