How The Netherlands Wants To Make Aviation Sustainable

Earlier this month, aviation executives from all over the world flew to Seoul for the annual meeting of the IATA, the International Air Transport Association.

The gathering occurred in a period of turmoil for the civil aviation industry as the “flygskam” (meaning “flight shame” in Swedish) movement is taking off across Europe. Initiated in Sweden as a sort of spin-off of climate activism, the flight-shame movement accuses the aviation industry of being an increasingly threatening polluter and calls for new climate taxes on flying and the end of aviation subsidies.
