Last year, President Trump introduced the Unmanned Aircraft System Integration Pilot Program. Of the 200 businesses that submitted applications, 10 have been chosen by Secretary Elaine L. Chao of the Department of Transportation. Initially, only five applications were going to be selected as part of the UAS IPP, but the number increased to 10 after a strong show of interest. Awardees include Choctaw Nation, The City of San Diego, CA, the Kansas Department of Transportation, and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. The proposals identify ways to balance local and national interests related to UAS integration, and addressing security and privacy risks, among other goals.
