Watch: Costco’s Pizza-Making Robot May Be Sign of What’s To Come

Costco is the nation’s 14th largest pizza retailer. It got there by offering large, flavorful pies for less than $10. One way it is cutting costs and improving it’s production is through an automated sauce spreading process. A machine evenly layers marinara sauce across the pizza in a matter of seconds, keeping labor costs down and production rate high.

The machine can’t do everything though; human workers are needed to finish topping the pizzas and boxing them. About 16 million people, or one in 10 workers is in the retail industry in the United States.
