Fire Decimates Historic Ambassador Hotel in Dallas

One of the earliest hotel icons in the city of Dallas burned down in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28.

The Ambassador Hotel, located in the Cedars district near downtown, was decimated by a fire that left the 115-year-old building almost completely hollowed out. Plumes of black and gray smoke could be seen throughout the rest of the day across the city.

The hotel had been vacant for several years and was slated for a renovation in coming years. The plan was to remodel the hotel into a mixed-use site with apartments, retail locations and restaurants.

Locals were optimistic the redevelopment would breathe new life into the area, like similarly re-purposed buildings have throughout Dallas in recent years.

No injuries inflicted by the fire were reported. According to FOX 4 News, more than 100 firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
