Danish startup, Corti, has developed software that can recognize out-of-hospital instances of cardiac arrest. Corti’s system listens to emergency calls and uses algorithms to identify both “verbal and non-verbal patterns of communication.”
It has been tested in Copenhagen, and a pilot program will launch this summer in four other European cities. It prompts the dispatcher to ask specific questions and makes the decision to send an ambulance or instruct someone present to begin CPR.
The software was able to accurately identify 93 percent compared to 72 percent recognized by human dispatchers. Every minute gained in a cardiac arrest situation increases survival by 7-10 percent.
