Australia is well on its way to becoming the world leader in renewable energy, and Germany hopes it can learn from their mistakes. Australia relied too heavily on replacing renewable energy without making it affordable or reliable, and now Germany watches  Australia try to solve those problems it experienced.

“Australia can learn from Germany’s mistakes of the last few years,” Christoph von Spesshardt, the deputy chairman of the German Business Initiative for Energy Efficiency said. “”I can see similarities between the situation in Australia now and Germany 10 years ago.”[1]

While Australia’s energy strides are advancing at the consumer level, they will need to update their building codes as early as 2019 to avoid unnecessary costs of $1.1 billion in household energy bills between now and 2022.

“Energy efficiency standards for commercial buildings are being considered in the current revision of the National Construction Code in 2019,” says Federal Environment and Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg. “My Department is actively working with stakeholders ahead of any further changes to residential buildings in the future.”
