The University of Hawaii Maui College is on track to become the first in the U.S. to depend totally on renewable energy, it has been reported. The end goal is for Hawaii’s university system in its entirety to produce as much energy as it consumes by the year 2035.
UH Maui spokesman Michael Unebasami said the college will rely on a network of solar panels, which is in line with a growing trend, according to Thomson Reuters Foundation reports.
Six U.S. universities have made similar commitments in the past two years, among them Colorado State University, Boston University, and Cornell University.
