The workforce at a nuclear power plant consists of hundreds of skilled operators, engineers, technicians, security forces, and other staff with specialized experience at a specific nuclear power plant,” White said. “Maintaining large portions of this workforce helps retain the institutional knowledge that can be invaluable when restarting a nuclear power plant.”
