The US Department of Education & the federal trade commission are struggling with how to guide schools on protecting students personal information while using educational technology. The information that is provided on devices like Ipads, laptops and other computers allow companies to get information about there consumers however access to this information becomes a more difficult subject when that information is being taken from students using these devices for education purposes. Both the FTC & the department of education think future discussion & perhaps additional guidance is warranted. This discussion should provide a roadmap for potential next steps the agencies can take. There is no word on when either organization will have further guidance to provide educators & their students on the safety of their personal information when using these devices.
