New technology changes the way people learn and options for experiential learning.

Host Brian Runo discussed the difference between augmented reality and virtual reality as learning tools in this episode of Marketscale’s Online Learning Minute.

Defining the difference, Runo explained that augmented reality allows learners to interact with objects in real life using smart devices to learn more. On the other hand, Runo said “virtual reality is (highly immersive).”

To illustrate the difference, Runo explained that augmented reality would allow a learner to point a device like a smartphone at a building in NYC to learn more about its architecture, history and more.

Learning about the same NYC building through virtual reality, learners could take an immersive virtual tour from the comfort of their own home. Runo said both these technologies “have their merits and their places, and both can be useful in education.”
