In response to the concerns of long-term viability in energy investments, the EU will label companies ready for a low-carbon future. Until this most recent move, the definition of an investment that can weather the potentially rocky transition has been unclear at best. There is no requirement for firms to invest “green,” but a portfolio can’t claim sustainability without a certain number of the labels on file. A yearlong commission offered the suggestion as the EU ramps up toward investment goals in the wake of the Paris Climate Agreement.
