How Much Input Should Local Communities Have Over the Design of Government Buildings?

Legislation reintroduced in congress, backed by the AIA, would prevent federal administrations from defining preferred building styles for government buildings. As Margine Biswas, Principal at Archiphy, argues, government buildings must be built with significant input from the local communities that its inhabitants represent.

“An open forum is always available for discussion,” says Biswas. “These hearing conducted with the community, local authorities, building designers and owners can reach a decision with a locally elected council, and not through the taste of a view federal representatives.”
